In america, making robocalls through voice cloning using artificial intelligence (AI) has been made illegal.

Reuters reported on the ninth (local time) that the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced a latest policy that considers the usage of AI cloned voice automated calls illegal.

In accordance with him, this decision follows an incident within the Latest Hampshire primary last month through which a fake AI phone impersonating President Joe Biden urged voters to not vote.

FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said, “Through this motion, Latest Hampshire has secured a basis for investigating suspects of voice cloning.”

“This motion is a warning against fraudsters using AI-generated voices to rob vulnerable relations, imitate celebrities, and supply misinformation to voters.”

The FCC noted that while state prosecutors were previously able to research problematic AI voice-generated robocalls, this move makes it illegal to make use of AI to generate voice from robocalls.

The state of Latest Hampshire investigated the fake Biden robocall and identified a Texas-based company called Life Corporation because the source early last week.

Meanwhile, the FCC last 12 months imposed a superb of $5.1 million (about 6.8 billion won) on political groups that made greater than 1,100 illegal robocalls ahead of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
