The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Ahn Deok-geun) announced on the seventh that it has begun the establishment of an 'AI autonomous manufacturing master plan' to realize great industrial transformation through process innovation and productivity improvement within the domestic manufacturing industry.

First Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kang Kyung-seong invited industrial artificial intelligence (AI) solution corporations resembling LG Electronics, LS Electric, DN Solutions, and Machinalax to a gathering and exchanged opinions on industrial AI cases, development direction, and policy support measures. .

With a view to reply to the recent increase in productivity and competitiveness of the manufacturing industry, the competition for leadership amongst countries around the globe to mix artificial intelligence (AI) within the manufacturing industry is intensifying.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is analyzing the processes of major manufacturing corporations and introducing ▲intelligent production (system combining industrial data and AI) ▲combination of advanced equipment (integration of production equipment and network connection at each stage of the method) ▲autonomous manufacturing system (software and algorithm system). We plan to ascertain an ‘AI autonomous manufacturing master plan’ that features collaboration between stages and ministries inside the first half of the 12 months.

LG Electronics Managing Director Hwang Won-jae, who attended the meeting, introduced examples of the corporate's process innovation, saying, “We’re pursuing the mixing of business AI into the manufacturing process and plan to regularly commercialize it.”

Seongho Yoon, CEO of Machinarax, said, “The competitiveness of the long run manufacturing industry can be determined by industrial AI and robotics technology, and now could be a critical turning point for productivity innovation,” emphasizing that the convergence of producing and industrial AI must begin.

First Vice Minister Kang Kyeong-seong said, “We are going to strongly support domestic manufacturing to take a breakthrough by applying AI to the manufacturing industry, including by promoting a pilot project inside this 12 months.”
