Midjourney’s latest Pan feature: 5 things it is advisable to know

“Pan” isn’t only for cooking. Use [Pan] for a “pan-oramic’ view of your creativity

Midjourney (MJ) released a latest Outpainting feature called “Pan” yesterday. Pan permits you to move your image in 4 directions: left, right, up, and down. MJ will robotically add more canvas and details as you pan your image.

The pan buttons.
The pan buttons: Left, Right, Up, and Down.

(1)

  • [Zoom Out 1.5x], [Zoom Out 2x], [Custom Zoom], and [Pan] all add more canvas to your original image. Their primary working mechanism is identical.
  • Outpainting buttons, including the brand new [Pan] feature, will appear after you’ve got upscaled a picture (by pressing the U1, U2, U3, or U4 buttons).
  • Outpainting features, including [Pan], will keep your original image intact unless you mistakenly click the Variation buttons (V1, V2, V3, or V4), which can reset or wipe out the unique image, forcing you to begin over.
  • Rerolls will only affect or change the canvas areas which were added. The unique image is preserved and unaffected.
  • Variations usually are not supported on panned images. After panning a picture, all variation buttons will disappear from the next image grid.

(2) Pan expands the canvas in just directions. In contrast to [Zoom Out] and [Custom Zoom], each add more canvas surrounding the unique image.

  • You may either pan the image horizontally or vertically. But not each at the identical time. For instance, should you pan the image horizontally by clicking the left OR right Pan buttons, you may only extend the image horizontally within the next Pan. The buttons to pan vertically (up and down buttons) will disappear in the brand new image grid.
  • You can’t control the quantity of pan. For now, MJ bot will determine that for you.

(3) within the panned image. As an example, should you pan right by clicking the proper arrow, a further canvas can be added to the proper of the unique image. Pan will shift your subject/object in the unique image to the left.

  • Once you pan right, your image shifts to the left. A further canvas can be added to the proper.
  • Once you pan left, your image shifts to the proper. Add more canvas to the left.
  • Once you pan up, your image will move down. Add more canvas to the highest.
  • Once you pan down, your image will move up. Add more canvas to the underside.
  • The flexibility of the Pan to maneuver your subject to 1 side distinguishes it from other Outpainting features.

The image is panned down. A latest canvas has been added to the underside while the topic (rose) shifted to the highest.
The image is panned up. A latest canvas has been added to the highest while the topic (rose) shifted to the underside.

(4) as you pan it.

  • You may keep panning, and MJ will keep extending your image by changing its aspect ratio for you, leading to a really large image.
  • You do not want additional software to stitch together the pan images to create a panoramic photo. Inside MJ, you may create a panoramic image by repeatedly panning the image in a direction.
  • When you zoom out on a panned image, MJ will reset and reduce the image resolution to the default size.

(5) It’s a great idea to inform the MJ bot what you would like to see in the brand new canvas as you pan your image. When you don’t provide additional information, the bot will guess and generate the identical image based on the unique prompt. This might lead to an odd, repeated image! I counsel ON the remix mode each time you utilize the Pan feature. Here’s tips on how to activate the remix mode:

  • Type /remix or /prefer remix (each are the identical) to enable the /remix mode.
  • To show off the /remix mode, type the identical thing again and hit enter to deactivate the remix mode.
  • To alter what appears within the canvas, delete the prevailing prompt and enter a latest one. For instance, you may add a cat next to a bouquet of roses in a vase (before the cat smacks the vase all the way down to the ground!).
You should use /remix so as to add more details to the panned image. Here, I removed the unique prompt and replaced it with “British Shorthair cat” within the /remix pop-up dialogue box.

  • Pan lets you proceed extending your image to the left or right (horizontally) or up or down (vertically).
  • You may also use Pan so as to add latest details to the canvas, similar to a latest subject/object/person outside of the unique image.
  • A still image created by writing a prompt can’t be prolonged or expanded to incorporate latest details.

(1) Pan is the brand new addition to the Midjourney’s Outpainting features.

(2) With Pan, you may only expand your image horizontally or vertically. Not each.

(3) Pan moves your subject/object to 1 side

(4) Pan will robotically change your aspect ratio

(5) Activate /remix mode when using Pan
