Google has created a latest organization called ‘Google Deep Mind’ by gathering artificial intelligence (AI) researchers within the group into one place. It appears to be a measure to reply to the recent fierce competition in technology development centered on generative AI.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a blog post on the twenty first (local time), “We’ve got integrated the workforce from Google Research and DeepMind under parent company Alphabet into one organization.” Combining them right into a focused team is anticipated to greatly speed up advances in AI.”

The brand new research organization, Google DeepMind, is led by Demis Hassabis, DeepMind Founder and CEO. Jeff Dean, who was accountable for Google Research, changes his role to Google’s chief scientist. Google Research plans to stay an independent organization, continuing research focused on advances in computer science in areas corresponding to quantum computing, climate and responsible AI.

Alphabet’s DeepMind, which has offices in London, England, developed AlphaFold and AlphaGo to predict protein structures. Google acquired DeepMind for $500 million in 2014 and kept it under parent company Alphabet.

Google Research developed and released Transformers in 2017. It’s the bottom technology of several large language models recently released, including OpenAI’s GPT series. Subsequently, the mixing of the workforce of the 2 organizations is interpreted as Google’s will to focus more on research and product development related to generative AI.

On this regard, CEO Hassabis said, “Through Google DeepMind, we’ll lead the event of next-generation AI innovations and products.” “For this, we’re gathering world-class talent together with computing power, infrastructure and resources.”
