Experts from major leading countries in quantum technology, akin to america, Germany, and the UK, will gather in a single place to debate the strategy for international standardization of quantum technology and the establishment of a technical committee.

The National Agency for Technology and Standards of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Director Jin Jong-wook, hereinafter known as the Korea Standards Institute) announced that it could hold a gathering of the Quantum Technology Standardization Evaluation Group (IEC/SEG14) in Jeju on the thirteenth and 14th, with about 30 domestic and foreign standardization experts participating.

At this meeting, the international standardization roadmap for quantum technology in 4 sectors, quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum sensing, and quantum materials, which is being developed led by Korea, can be discussed.

For quantum computing, there are three items, including ‘measurement error mitigation technology’ to make sure the traditional operation and efficiency of quantum computers, and for quantum communication, five items, including ‘quantum key technology for maintaining security’ required for data transmission and reception. · A complete of 13 standardization targets are included, including 3 ‘optical/magnetic field utilization technology’ required for the event of ultra-precision sensors, and a pair of ‘technology related to securing materials’ that may implement quantum technology for quantum materials.

As well as, experts discuss ways to determine a quantum technology technical committee.

The plan is to finalize the international standardization roadmap for quantum technology in August, and to submit a proposal for a recent quantum technology technical committee to the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standardization management board in October.

Korea led the publication of IEC white papers that present quantum technology trends, application areas, and standardization demand, and led to the establishment of a quantum technology standardization evaluation group. Since June of last 12 months, Park Seong-soo, a senior researcher on the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, has been serving because the chairman of the Quantum Technology Standardization Evaluation Group (SEG14), and domestic experts are serving because the leader of the quantum technology utilization field and standardization roadmap working group.

Jin Jong-wook, Director of the National Institute of Technology and Standards, said, “Korea is playing a number one role from the start of the international standardization of quantum technology through public-private cooperation.” We are going to actively support it,” he said.
