Apple's 'Vision Pro' value 4.7 million won, original price 2 million won

An evaluation showed that the price of 'Vision Pro', an XR (mixed reality) headset released by Apple, amounts to 2 million won. Because of this, unlike other headsets, the Vision Pro couldn’t be priced at 4.7 million won.

Citing data from research company Omdia, CNBC reported on the twenty fourth (local time) that the manufacturing cost (Bill of Materials) of Vision Pro is $1,542 (roughly 2.05 million won), accounting for 44% of the overall price. The Vision Pro costs at the very least $3,499 (about 4.66 million won).

In accordance with this, the costliest components are the 2 fundamental micro OLED displays. This product is manufactured by Sony Semiconductor and costs roughly $456, accounting for 29.6% of the overall cost.

Even Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of competitor Meta, praised the Vision Pro's internal display in an Instagram video, saying, “The resolution is higher and it's really good.” The actual resolution is 3660 x 3200, boasting the best pixel count amongst products produced by Apple.

“Korean suppliers, including Samsung Display and LG Display, have shown interest on this technology,” said Jay Shar, Omdia display analyst.

Next are Apple's two self-developed chips, 'M2' and 'R1'. It was estimated at $240, accounting for 15.6%.

M2 is identical product utilized in the on-device AI MacBook released by Apple in November of last 12 months, and is chargeable for running the operating system and processing images. R1 is a custom processor that processes cameras, microphones, and other sensors.

Adding all other parts from the headset frame to the battery, the overall manufacturing cost amounts to $1,542.

In fact, this excludes all labor costs and distribution costs.

Meanwhile, the price of 44% is comparable to the value ratio of existing Apple product lines. Within the case of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the manufacturing cost is estimated to be 42%.
