Linear Programming Optimization: Foundations

-

Part 1 – Basic Concepts and Examples

Linear programming is a strong optimization technique that’s used to enhance decision making in lots of domains. That is the primary part in a multi-part series that may cover vital topics having to do with linear programming. This primary article will probably be the simplest and is supposed to cover the fundamentals before stepping into more advanced linear programming topics.

In this text, we’ll:

  1. Discuss what constitutes a linear programming problem
  2. Go over how linear programming works and why it’s powerful
  3. Run a linear programming example in Python

I personally find examples to be a really effective vehicle for learning technical topics. For that reason, we will probably be following a straightforward example throughout this text. I’ll introduce the instance in the following section.

Before we dive in, for those who aren’t very aware of the fundamental concepts and terminology of optimization, I wrote an intro to optimization article that I encourage you to examine out before continuing (there are various generic optimization terms in this text that I don’t define).
