Roblox, the world’s largest gaming platform, has announced that it’s developing generative artificial intelligence (AI) models for users to make use of on the platform. The thought is to construct the models itself as a substitute of counting on third-party models that it has been using to date.

Roblox announced at its developer conference held in San Jose, California, USA on the sixth (local time) that it’s developing 3D foundation models that users can use to construct games, and that it’s going to be released in three months.

CEO David Bazootski said in his keynote speech that day, “We’re developing an open source model that may create in-game content using text, video, and 3D prompts.”

Describing it as an “incubation project” with 40 dedicated staff, he said it may very well be ready in three months. He then demonstrated the way to create a map using easy text and image prompts, making a desert and calling out a forest.

Roblox has been implementing generative AI in its games since February 2023, nevertheless it has used tools from other firms, which CEO Bazootsky described as “just scratching the surface of what we’ve planned.”

“We see a robust future driven by broad generative AI capabilities with real-time generation capabilities integrated into gameplay,” he said, adding that “we’ll make this available to everyone on our platforms.”

“In the longer term, creators will have the option to say they need to create a world that has a castle within the Scottish Highlands, a stormy day, a dragon backdrop, and so they want all of it to be in a steampunk steampunk style, and all the scene can be generated for them,” Manuel Bronstein, Roblox’s chief product officer, added.

He also stressed that the goal will not be to interchange game developers, but to enable more people to develop and create games. Specifically, he added that developers will have the option to fine-tune AI-generated content to their very own style.

Meanwhile, Roblox announced that as of June, it had 79.5 million day by day energetic users. This is a rise of greater than 20 million from 58.8 million in February last yr.

Additionally they said their goal is to have 1 billion day by day energetic users and for 10% of world gaming revenue to be generated through the Roblox ecosystem and distributed to the creator community.
