The Busan Cinema Center announced that it should hold the ‘Busan International AI Film Festival’ introducing movies produced using generative artificial intelligence (AI) on the Busan Cinema Center’s Small Theater and Sky Theater from December sixth to eighth.

Busan is the primary city to carry a movie festival solely based on AI-generated works, and it was reported that a conference shall be held in the course of the festival to debate the AI technology utilized in film production and the longer term prospects of the film industry.

Entries shall be accepted from August 1st to August twenty first. Any film utilizing AI technology could be submitted no matter genre. Individuals or teams can submit videos of three to quarter-hour long through the Busan AI Film Festival website.

After the primary preliminary screening, 15 movies shall be chosen for screening, and a screening shall be held in the course of the film festival period. The grand prize, the ‘AI Creative Film Award’, shall be awarded with a money prize of 10,000 dollars (roughly 13 million won).

The Film Archive said, “Currently, the AI platform lacks Korean Wave content, so there are limitations in containing Korean images.” They added, “Through the film festival, we’ll take the lead in providing various resources to creators who wish to utilize the Korean Wave and Korean content, and in establishing a system that protects and fosters our own Korean culture.”

Meanwhile, in the USA, the ‘AI Movie Festival’ hosted by video generation AI startup Runway has been held since last 12 months.
