I even have been an IT Skilled for 20+ years and may say obviously that IT jobs are one in all the hardest. We’re under constant pressure to learn and keep pace with changing technology and be on the leading edge of delivering productive outcomes.
ChatGPT replacing IT jobs are the least of my worries, I will probably be nervous about jobs which can be repetitive and ripe for automation.
Below are a number of the reasons for the argument.
- If ChatGPT was capable or will eventually be capable as what people claim, why would Microsoft and others value it at a mere USD 29 Billion. For instance, a taxi hailing and food delivery app is valued at USD 40 billion. Investors could be preview to loads more insider information and future capabilities of the tool.
- Chat GPT is a productivity tool, little doubt about it. At the tip of the day, programming is nothing but training machines and computers to perform the tasks. Chat GPT is one technique to perform this. What we converse with Chat GPT is nothing but code, the training curve is way lower than a standard programming language, but the aptitude of Chat GPT may be very limited.
- An IT project just isn’t about producing code, it’s about engaging with people, understanding requirements, validating requirements, prioritising changes, implementing , integrating with existing systems, validating the ultimate integrated solution. Software is 99% a people challenge, not code generation challenge.
- The proper analogy is “Data is the brand new oil”, with the recent explosion of information collection and systems being about to mine data, from storing and processing 10 GB of information to 10000X times the amount in the identical time, we are going to see ChatGPT increase productivity and this can in-turn push the boundaries of what technology can create. We are going to leverage this capability on audio and visual technologies, Augmented Reality and Virtual reality will probably be latest oil !
There’ll alway be “something is the brand new oil !, ChatGPT is the brand new oil“
