The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST, President Lee Kwang-hyung) announced on the twenty fourth that it can hold the doorway briefing session for the Graduate School of Quantum each online and offline on the thirtieth.

KAIST established the Quantum Graduate School in February and can start operating undergraduate programs from this fall semester. The goal is to nurture talents with master’s and doctoral degrees in the sector of quantum technology, including quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum sensing.

Particularly, it joins hands with the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS, President Park Hyeon-min), officially designated as a ‘quantum national technology strategy center’ by the Ministry of Science and ICT, to use field research experience to school education and joint research.

With a view to maximize synergy, KAIST professor and researcher Jeong Chul-yeon, who was appointed as an adjunct professor, form a team to introduce a ‘joint advisor system’ wherein one student is in charge.

We also conduct joint research involving students. The goal is to foster top-notch quantum field experts who’ve each theoretical and practical skills by utilizing task-oriented in-depth research that students receive joint guidance from each institutions.

As well as, to reply to the diversifying demand for quantum technology, we offer multidisciplinary convergence education wherein the Department of Physics, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, etc. participate.

In the longer term, the scope of cooperation will likely be expanded to Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and research institutes in quantum-related fields to activate various educational curricula and joint research.

Professor Kim Eun-seong of the Graduate School of Quantum said, “There are various cases where universities and research institutes collaborated to determine themselves as world-class research and education hubs, reminiscent of UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the US, and the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory.”

“KAIST Graduate School of Quantum may even strive to change into a world-class expert training institution based on specialized programs that work closely with KRISS, and moreover, to create future value for quantum technology and secure leadership in recent growth engines.”
