The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Lee Jong-ho) announced on the thirteenth that Joo Young-chang, head of the Science and Technology Innovation Headquarters, visited Naver 1784 to hearken to the commercialization status of national strategic technologies corresponding to super-giant artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced robots and exchange opinions.

Naver 1784 is Naver’s recent constructing accomplished in 2022, and it also functions as a test bed to integrate technologies gathered by Naver, corresponding to AI, robots, and cloud, and to display technologies to be developed in the longer term.

This site visit was prepared to examine the event status and methods of the private sector in relation to national strategic technologies corresponding to super-giant AI and advanced robots, and to debate the federal government’s role and support plans.

On at the present time, Naver introduced Korea’s first super-giant AI model ‘Hyper Clova’ in 2021, introducing its experience of constantly expanding the ecosystem and promising services linked to future technology and industrial development directions. On the meeting that followed, the participants discussed the role of the federal government in relation to the strategic technology field led by the private sector and the direction of support needed by the private sector.

Joo Young-chang, head of the Science and Technology Innovation Headquarters, said, “Although super-giant AI is a technology field led by the private sector, the federal government’s role can also be clear and if appropriate support is provided, we expect that it should help Korean corporations secure global competitiveness.”
