Crunchbase reported on the ninth (local time) that Antropic raised a further $300 million (about 370 billion won) in a single month after receiving an investment from Google.

Antropic is a synthetic intelligence (AI) startup that developed the AI chatbot ‘Claude’, a rival of ‘ChatGPT’. It was co-founded by a former Open AI researcher. Last month, Google raised $300 million.

With this investment attraction, the corporate has increased its total investment attraction to $1.34 billion (roughly 1.6 trillion won). The company value also rose to $4.1 billion (roughly 5.4 trillion won).

It’s analyzed that it is because the AI chatbot ‘Claude’, developed by this company and undergoing a closed beta test, was evaluated as superior to ‘ChatGPT’.

Antropic was already well-funded prior to this 12 months, raising $740 million last 12 months through Series A and B rounds led by FTX cryptocurrency exchange founder Sam Bankman Pride.

Despite barely making any money, Antropic’s high profile is due to the so-called generative AI craze fueled by the rise of ChatGPT last 12 months.

Generative AI is an algorithm that may generate text, images and other media based on user prompts. Analysts consider the technology shouldn’t be only useful for dozens of applications, but could compete with Google in online searches.
