Generative AI hype distracts us from AI’s more essential breakthroughs

This type of hype has contributed to a frenzy of misunderstandings about what AI actually is and what it might and can’t do. Crucially, generative AI is a seductive distraction from the form of AI that’s most certainly to make your life higher, and even put it aside: Predictive AI. In contrast to AI designed for generative tasks, AI involves tasks with a finite, known set of answers; the system just has to process information to say which answer is true.
