The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Lim Ki -cheol) announced on the twenty seventh that it held a seminar on strengthening the defense R & D capability on the Auditorium of the Highlight Technology Research Institute (APRI).
GIST is currently conducting a research and development project of about 10 billion won annually, and is working a dedicated system for the event of core technology within the defense industry, especially in APRI. Representative tasks include the event of future advanced laser technology, a defensive laser system for cosmic threats, and the event of ultra-compact intelligent drones that might be operated in communication-GPS shades.
In March, the present Higher Light Technology Research Institute was promoted to the Institute of Higher Light Technology, and a brand new organization was established for planning and implementation of core strategic tasks within the space and defense security field by establishing the Future Woo -Ju Division Convergence Research Headquarters. Next yr, the corporate plans to determine a civil military convergence joint research group and cultivate 20 masters of master’s and doctor-level talents yearly through the Graduate School of Space-Defense Photography.

The keynote speech was conducted by Kim Joo -hyun, Director of the Min -gun Cooperation Agency. It emphasized the importance of civil -military cooperation on the theme of ‘the best way to use the civilian technology cooperation project and the required future difficult national technology project’. The corporate introduced the whole process from discovering demand for defense technology to task, and presented a direction to determine a technique for technology transfer and commercialization through industry -university cooperation.
