The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced that it’ll establish a robust response policy against deepfake digital sex crimes, which have recently emerged as a social problem, and can actively support the soundness and recovery of victimized students.
The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education held an emergency executive meeting on the twenty eighth to debate this policy, and instructed schools in any respect levels to strengthen the counseling support system for victimized students, provide guidance on tips on how to delete and report posts, and implement response and prevention education centered around school principals.
Deepfake sexual crimes are crimes that use artificial intelligence technology to synthesize photos of acquaintances or social networking service (SNS) users with pornographic material. The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education emphasized that if such crimes occur, they shall be reported immediately to investigative authorities and responded sternly as school violence cases.
The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education has been including digital sex education as a compulsory requirement in schools to stop digital sex crimes and has been operating a field support team to offer preventive education by visiting schools.
This measure was taken in consideration of the recent spread of deepfakes, that are pornographic images synthesized onto the faces of an unspecified number of individuals, through social media, and the fear of them spreading nationwide.
On the twenty ninth, the Office of Education plans to carry a gathering with the heads of college support centers and education support divisions of the Office of Education to request that every city and county make every effort to stop and reply to digital sex crimes.
Former South Jeolla Province Superintendent of Education Kim Dae-jung emphasized that “anyone generally is a potential victim of digital sex crimes comparable to deepfakes,” and urged “students to watch out about personal information leaks online” and “to place more effort into preventive education in order that they don’t upload or transmit others’ personal information without consent.”
