Meta has signed a serious power purchase agreement (PPA) with RWE, the third largest renewable energy company within the U.S., with the intention of supplying the rapidly growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) with renewable energy.
Meta announced on the 18th (local time) that it’ll pursue a 374 MW PPA with RWE.
The contracts cover RWE’s 274-MW Country Run Solar project under construction in Illinois and the 100-MW Rapid Solar project in Louisiana.
“The 2 solar energy plants are a testament to Meta’s commitment to operating on 100% renewable energy,” RWE said.
The clean energy produced from the 2 plants is anticipated to be supplied to Meta from the top of 2025. Meta plans to power its data centers and offices with 100% renewable energy.
“Recent solar energy projects in partnership with renewable energy providers like RWE are an important a part of how META procures its energy,” said Urvi Parekh, META’s Head of Renewable Energy. “This collaboration is a very important example of how META is expanding its renewable energy footprint.”
