Google has refuted a study that found that its AI-generated search engine, “AI Overview,” was reducing search results by as much as 7%. It’s true that it was reducing queries to deal with hallucination issues, but to not that extent.
The Verge reported on the 18th, citing data compiled by BrightEdge, an enterprise search engine optimization platform, that Google’s AI Overview share decreased from 11% of all queries on June 1 to 7% on June 30.
Specifically, the community sites Reddit and Quora, which were cited as sources of inappropriate citations, showed a decrease within the variety of cases included in June citations, to 85.7% and 99.7%, respectively. Reddit is the source of the article that included instructions to place glue on pizza.
Google spokesperson Ashley Thompson said, “This is just not what now we have seen,” and identified that there’s a problem with the survey method. She said that BrightEdge’s survey appears to incorporate statistics from non-members of AI Overview. In the event you didn’t individually enroll for AI Overview in the course of the beta test period, you could see fewer AI search results.
“We also designed the AI Overview to seem for queries where it is useful and provides value beyond the prevailing functionality of the outcomes page, and it should proceed to seem for a major variety of searches,” he said. “We’re continually improving when and the way we show the AI Overview to make it as useful as possible, and now we have also made recent technology updates to enhance the standard of the responses.”
Nonetheless, it was not disclosed what quantity of the present AI overview is.
Prior to this, a survey conducted by SE Rating, a search engine platform, on the nineteenth of last month also showed that AI overview had decreased to eight.71%. Specifically, it was identified that Reddit and Quora had almost disappeared from citations.
There is just a slight difference of seven% and eight.71% depending on the time of the survey, but each places are the identical in that AI searches are decreasing.
While the decline in importance has been repeatedly identified, the rationale Google cannot disclose specific figures is because AI search will occupy a vital position in its future business.
For Google, which makes most of its revenue from search promoting, introducing AI search was of venture, but despite the initial negative response, it’s now believed to be taking hold.
