A major work of containing 100 -year history of Jeonnam, Yeosu, Jeonnam, has begun.

On May 26, the Yeosu Sports Association held the launching ceremony of the Sports Compilation Committee and the service starting report, and took step one within the compilation of the sports company.

The project goals to enhance the boundaries and lack of existing sports firms published in 1994 and to newly collect the entire history of Yeosu sports.

The Compilation Committee consisted of about 15 people, including senior residents of sports, sports organizations, administrative experts, journalists, and native researchers.

Most of the present sports firms have been composed of Chinese characters, leading to poor access to most of the people, and haven’t been in a position to fully reflect the changes after the initial sports formation (Nineteen Twenties and 60s) or after the mixing of cities and counties.

Consequently, the Yeosu City Sports Association plans to reorganize the complete contents with modern style on this compilation and restore the historical context that has been missing.

Specifically, since 1994, the event of living and skilled sports, performance by sport, and major characters and events have been described intimately for over 30 years.

As well as, it shouldn’t be only a timeline or statistical center, but an oral record based on the experiences and stories of the physical education.

To this end, each event group meeting, senior sports interviews, and private collection data are collected.

The digital era, sports history records must also change

Meanwhile, in relation to this compilation work, some media and cultural worlds propose the introduction of recent historical records that meet AI and digital technology.

This can be a single printing product in the shape of a booklet, which is restricted to accessibility and utilization, and it is particularly concerned that it’s difficult to avoid breakdown with digital generations.

Subsequently, along with the printing of the compilation, there’s an opinion that it’s vital to construct a digital sports company platform.

Within the digital pool, “online sports company database will be searched by sport, character, and time,” and “audiovisual materials reminiscent of interview video, photos, and past game videos will be inserted in multimedia.”

As well as, it is feasible to activate the production of sports history that will be viewed by a smartphone through mobile optimization, and the potential for utilization linked to highschool physical education or local festivals through education and culture -linked contents.

That is noted in that it could transcend easy historical records and sublimate Yeosu sportsmen into digital cultural heritage.

Currently, some metropolitan cities reminiscent of Seoul, Busan, and Gwangju have also been compiling sportsmen. Seoul operates a digital record center centered on photography and video, and Busan adopts an archive format linked to the municipal library, and Gwangju adopts a physical education -oral interview.

Nonetheless, this work in Yeosu is prone to become a more integrated and narrative sportsmen model in that it’s an early sports company supplementation → storytelling center reconstruction → future -oriented record proposal.

Citizen’s memory is history… Participation is a record

Myung -sik Myung -sik, chairman of the Yeosu Sports Association, said, “This sports company is a historical project that reflects the identity and pride of Yeosu sports.”

In truth, the Sports Association has received various reports reminiscent of photographs, documents, or oral interviews, and anyone can participate. Personal memories are public records, and the record is an asset for the longer term.

Yeosu sports for 100 years, now leaves as a record for the longer term. And the record must be shining within the digital world, not bookshelf. History is accomplished when it’s recorded and survives when shared.

It’s hoped that the compilation of the sportsman might be accomplished with a collective story with the memories and pride of all Yeosu residents.
