It has been reported that China is planning to put in large-scale solar energy plants in various parts of the world throughout 2024.
China Electric Power Construction recently announced that it has signed an engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) contract to put in solar energy with a capability of 530 megawatts (MW) in Panama.
For this project, which can be carried out in Sermeno, Panama, China can be chargeable for your complete process from design to construction, installation, ordering, performance testing, and final delivery. Through this, the intention is to strengthen Panama’s renewable energy supply, support carbon neutrality goals, and develop the local economy.
“This contract is a vital achievement for our company within the Latin American market,” said Zhang Guolai, U.S. general manager of China Electric Power Construction. “It’s an example of practical implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative.”
Construction is scheduled to start in 2025 and be accomplished in 2030.
Prior to this, China installed about 140 gigawatts (GW) of solar energy from January to August 2024, achieving a cumulative capability of 750GW, proving that it’s the world’s leading solar energy manufacturing country.
This includes the Atacama Project in Chile (480MW), which attracted attention for installing a large-scale desert solar energy project. Also, in December, the world’s first solar energy installation was accomplished at an altitude of 5,000 meters above sea level and power production began in earnest.
