The UK plans to expand renewable energy according to the era of decarbonization.
The British government announced the ‘Clean Power Motion Plan’ on the thirteenth (local time) to scale back costs and strengthen energy security through renewable energy. The goal is to modify from fossil fuels, whose prices are unstable, to renewable energy by 2030.
For energy transition, the UK chosen ▲reorganizing the facility grid ▲simplifying renewable energy approval ▲expanding renewable energy auctions as major tasks.
We plan to abolish the facility grid connection, which was previously conducted on a first-come, first-served basis, and promote reorganization and rapid connection to prioritize vital renewable energy projects. Moreover, the infrastructure approval process might be simplified, which is able to shorten the installation of renewable energy.
The UK stated that the introduction of renewable energy is overkill considering energy security and economic elements in a situation where energy stability is declining resulting from the war in Ukraine.
He also announced that he would contribute to job creation by attracting private investment of 40 billion kilos (about 72 trillion won) yearly.
Edward Miliband, UK Minister for Energy Security and Carbon Neutrality, said, “Britain’s renewable energy will provide positive effects when it comes to energy security, lower electricity prices, creation of quality jobs and response to climate change.” He added, “Renewable energy is a key factor for security and economy. “It’s a tool,” he said.
Recently, the UK is accelerating its efforts to realize its decarbonization goal by announcing plans to put in solar and wind power generation one after one other.
Following the announcement of an expansion of solar energy to 70 gigawatts (GW) by 2035, last month the corporate announced plans to put in 900 megawatts (MW) of solar energy, the biggest within the UK. Nevertheless, as of July, solar energy installed within the UK was only 17GW, accounting for under 6.8% of the UK’s renewable energy. Renewable energy within the UK accounts for 45% of total energy production.
As well as, last month, the corporate announced the ‘Manchester Prize’, a contest for developing renewable energy systems using AI, and is exploring various ways to adopt AI as a vital technology for decarbonization.
