A generative artificial intelligence (AI) tool has been launched to assist Chinese government officials write articles about Communist Party ideology.
China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported on the 4th that China’s big tech Baidu has launched a brand new writing AI assistant in cooperation with ‘Xeshi Qianguo (Learning Powerhouse)’, run by the Communist Party’s Central Propaganda Department.
Xiesi Qiaguo is a mobile app developed by Alibaba in 2019 to assist Communist Party members learn ideology. The AI ​​tool, named ‘Official Document Assistant’, can seek for articles or quotes by President Xi Jinping and create or refine articles about them.
It also provides search summaries of presidency documents, policies, and state-run media reports, and provides source links. Baidu is understood to have applied ‘Ernie 4.0’, the idea of Erniebot, which ranks second in market share amongst Chinese chatbots, to this tool.
The South China Morning Post reported that in China, writing articles based on Communist ideology is a crucial a part of the work of civil servants and state-owned enterprise employees.
It was also reported that prior to this in September, technology giant iFlytech collaborated with Xie Xi Qianguo to release an AI tool that generates text, images, and video.
Moreover, in May, China’s Cyberspace Administration launched its own Large Language Model (LLM) based on President Xi Jinping’s political philosophy.
This model is understood to have learned ‘Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a Recent Era’, including President Xi Jinping’s instructions and policies on all facets including politics, society, and economy.
