Actor Robert Downey Jr. announced that he would prevent the creation of clones of himself using artificial intelligence (AI) after his death. This appears to be to forestall a situation like Ian Holm that occurred within the movie ‘Alien’ not way back.
The Guardian reported last week that Downey Jr. appeared on a podcast and announced his intention to sue if an AI clone is created after his death.
“I express my intention to sue future executives, depending on the circumstances,” he said. When the host identified that he “would have been dead by then,” he responded, “But my law firm will still be very lively.”
Nonetheless, he added that he has a lot faith within the individuals who made Marvel movies that he won’t ever appear on screen again without permission.
This statement takes into consideration the looks of an AI clone of Ian Holm, who passed away two years ago, in ‘Alien: Romulus’, which was released in August. Holm played the android character Ash within the 1979 film ‘Alien’ and passed away in 2020 on the age of 88 resulting from Parkinson’s disease.
After in search of consent from the bereaved family, the production team created a brand new character by restoring the face and voice using AI technology. Holm’s name was added to the credits, and it was stated that the character’s face and voice were a reference. Nonetheless, fans and critics all criticized it. Some even responded, “Is that this digital necromancy?”
On today, Downey Jr. said about AI and deepfakes, “It’s a world I never thought of before.” “I don’t really have lots of room for that because I even have an emotional life,” she said.
Nonetheless, he shouldn’t be completely unrelated to technology firms. In 2019, it announced that it had invested in a company that uses robotics and AI to scale back carbon. He also serves on the board of directors of a company that seeks to reinforce cybersecurity using AI.
Meanwhile, Downey Jr. announced in July that he would return to the MCU because the villain Doctor Doom in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. Also, earlier this month, he debuted on Broadway within the play ‘McNeill’.
