AI child porn producer sentenced to 18 years in prison in UK

A British man who used artificial intelligence (AI) tools to create and sell child pornography has been sentenced to 18 years in prison. In this manner, the US and UK governments are recently increasing their vigilance against child abuse images.

The Associated Press reported on the twenty ninth (local time) that Hugh Nelson, 27, from Bolton, who created pornographic images using AI using real photographs of youngsters, was found guilty of 16 counts of kid sexual abuse in August following an investigation by Greater Manchester Police.

Nelson reportedly converted normal images of youngsters using ‘Daz 3D’, a pc program with AI capabilities, and in some cases received images of actual children from clients.

He earned about 5,000 kilos (about 9 million won) in 18 months by selling photos in Web chat rooms. He was arrested after infiltrating a web-based chat room and demanding 80 kilos (about 140,000 won) to create a brand new image.

He was also found guilty of encouraging other offenders to harm children. It was also discovered that on this process, there have been suspects and victims all around the world, including Italy, France, and the US.

The case is claimed to be “the primary real test” of laws against digitally manipulated indecent images within the UK.

As such, AI child pornography is emerging as a current issue in each country. Specifically, in the US, cellular phone use by minors and exposure to social media have recently emerged as an issue, and crackdowns on child abuse images are being strengthened.

Specifically, with the recent development of image generation AI technology, there was talk of the necessity for technical support, with investigators spending hours trying to find out whether a picture is real or created.

Meanwhile, AI firms resembling Google, OpenAI, and Stability also agreed to cooperate with Thorn, a baby sexual abuse prevention organization, to stop the spread of the image.
