OpenAI officially launched a synthetic intelligence (AI) search function in ‘ChatGPT’. Consequently, a full-fledged AI search competition with Google and Perplexity is unfolding.
OpenAI announced on the thirty first (local time) that it should launch a search function for Plus and Teams users, that are paid ChatGPT users. It can be rolled out to Enterprise and Edu users in the approaching weeks, and to all free users in the approaching months.
The search function can be available on the ChatGPT page and desktop and mobile apps. ChatGPT routinely searches the net in keeping with the query, but you can even select the search manually by clicking the net search icon within the prompt input window.
“Getting useful answers from the net takes a variety of effort,” OpenAI points out. “You regularly have to go looking multiple times and dig through links to search out quality sources and knowledge that’s best for you.”
But now you may recover answers with chat. Whenever you ask questions in a more natural, conversational way, ChatGPT can respond with information gleaned from the net. Whenever you dig deeper with follow-up questions, you recover answers that take the total context of the chat into consideration. “You possibly can get it,” he explained.
ChatGPT Search provides the most recent information and visual design, including the most recent sports scores, stock quotes, news, and weather, through real-time web search and partnerships with news and data providers. It also includes links to sources equivalent to news articles and blog posts.

For this service, OpenAI has formed 13 partnerships with major global media, including AP, Axel Springer, Condé Nast, Financial Times, Hearst, Le Monde, News Corp, Reuters, Time, and Vox Media.
Moreover, in July, beta testing of a search engine called SearchGPT began for a limited variety of users.
OpenAI said its search model is a fine-tuned version of ‘GPT-4o’, post-trained using latest synthetic data generation techniques, including distilling the output of ‘o1-preview’. He also added that it utilizes content directly provided by third-party search providers and partners, equivalent to Microsoft’s ‘Bing’.
It’s interesting to see how much impact this search launch can have on Google, the dominant search engine. Also, perplexity is on the rise on this field.
As well as, Microsoft described OpenAI as a competitor within the search field in a report last July. Meta also signed a take care of Reuters and plans so as to add its own AI search service.
Although Google’s market share has not modified significantly for the reason that launch of ChatGPT, the evaluation is that that is the beginning of full-scale competition. After this news broke, Alphabet’s stock price fell about 1%.

Meanwhile, Google announced that it could launch a real-time search function for developers in ‘Gemini’ just a few hours before the announcement of Open AI.
A brand new feature called ‘Grounding with Google Search’ helps developers create AI apps able to real-time search through Gemini API and Google AI Studio.
“This technique allows developers to complement their AI applications with up-to-date search data, including citations and sources,” Google explained.
