Newability, the primary outdoor mobile robot operator in Korea, announced its progress and future plans in celebration of its first month of service. Particularly, we plan to develop a big language model (LLM) to develop general-purpose robots.
Newbility (CEO Lee Sang-min), a self-driving robot specialist, announced on the eleventh that it has collaborated with Yogiyo and officially began delivery robot service within the Songdo area of Incheon last month.
Currently, the speed has been reset to optimize service, and the security certification process from the Korea Robot Industry Promotion Agency is being re-processed. It’s because the crosswalks within the Songdo area are long, requiring 5 to 7 km per hour, which is quicker than the prevailing robot movement speed of three to 4 km per hour.
A Newbility official said, “Even though it was barely delayed than planned, the Songdo service could be very significant because it is the primary case of outside delivery. This 12 months, we’ll give attention to stabilizing the service.”
Particularly, the range of input robots and delivery might be expanded. Currently, the service is provided only inside a 1.2km radius of six robot waiting stations in Songdo, however the variety of waiting stations might be increased to 11 throughout the 12 months and 50 robots might be deployed.
Newability plans to produce a complete of two,000 delivery robots ‘Newbee’ with Yogiyo over two years and expand the service to downtown Seoul and university areas.
Global business can be expanding. Particularly, the main focus was on business diversification.
The patrol robot demonstration underway with the American security company SFS has expanded its scope beyond the posh housing complex in Miami, Florida to nearby communities. It was also reported that it received positive response from residents as a result of its friendly appearance.
Currently, we’re looking for to expand our service to incorporate delivery robots following patrol robots. Particularly, we’re discussing a contract with Mayo Clinic, the most important company in the US, to produce drug delivery robots inside hospitals. The reason is, “Autonomous robot technology that may operate indoors and outdoors is Newbility’s unique strength.”
Moreover, we’re also working on developing LLM for robots. It is a preparatory step to develop general-purpose robots beyond patrol or delivery.
Specific details haven’t yet been disclosed. Nonetheless, an official said, “We’re attracting investment of fifty billion won by developing a general-purpose robot foundation model.”
