Hyundai Motor Company and Waymo sign autonomous driving partnership

Hyundai Motor Company announced on the fifth that it has signed a multi-year strategic partnership with Waymo.

In the primary phase of the partnership, the 2 firms will integrate ‘Waymo Drive’, the sixth generation fully autonomous driving technology, into Hyundai’s electric vehicle IONIQ 5 SUV. Moreover, the IONIQ 5 shall be used because the ‘Waymo One’ vehicle in the long run.

The IONIQ 5 shall be assembled on the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) EV manufacturing facility in Georgia, USA, after which integrated with Waymo’s autonomous driving technology. Initial road testing of the Waymo-powered Ioniq 5 is anticipated to start in late 2025, with Waymo One Riders expected to be available inside the following few years.
