Jeollanam-do, Gwangju City, and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) have joined forces to expand renewable energy and strengthen the facility grid.
On the agreement signing ceremony held at KEPCO on September 23, former South Jeolla Province Governor Kim Young-rok, Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jung, and KEPCO President Kim Dong-cheol promised to cooperate to advertise the production and distribution of latest and renewable energy and to expand the facility grid early.
Moreover, it was decided to operate a working-level consultative body to make sure smooth implementation of the agreement.
With a view to solve the issue of grid saturation, South Jeolla Province goals to expand the 345 kV flexible network connected to the metropolitan area and minimize restrictions on renewable energy access. It also plans to propose a plan to construct consumer substations in existing and recent industrial complexes.
Together with this, the Gwangju-Jeonnam Energy Industry Convergence Complex Management Committee, the primary of its kind within the country, was launched.
The complex will play a pivotal role in promoting regional economic growth and sustainable development by converging cutting-edge energy technologies equivalent to renewable energy, smart grids, and energy storage systems (ESS).
On the launching ceremony, Governor Kim Young-rok emphasized, “I’ll actively support the Gwangju-Jeonnam Energy Industry Convergence Complex in order that it will probably step forward as a worldwide energy technology innovation center.”
Through the creation of the ‘K-Energy Valley’, South Jeolla Province and Gwangju City aim to guide energy technology innovation and become a worldwide energy industry hub.
