The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minister Cho Tae-yeol) announced that it can hold the ‘2024 High-Level Meeting on the Responsible Military Use of Artificial Intelligence (2024 REAIM High-Level Meeting)’ jointly with the Ministry of National Defense on the Lotte and Westin Chosun Hotels in Seoul on the ninth and tenth.
The REAIM High-Level Meeting is a 1.5-track international multilateral meeting where governments, industry, academia, and international organizations discuss the impact of military use of AI on international peace and security. The second meeting this 12 months will likely be co-hosted by the Netherlands, Singapore, Kenya, and the UK.
The 2024 REAIM High-Level Meeting is predicted to be attended by government delegations from about 90 countries, including ministers and vice ministers of foreign affairs and defense from 34 countries. Roughly 2,000 people, including government officials, have registered.
On the ninth, there will likely be a gap ceremony and special speeches by youth representatives for the conference attendees. In the primary session of the plenary session, there will likely be a keynote panel discussion on the subject of ‘The impact of AI on international peace and security’ followed by 13 small group meetings concurrently, and within the second session, there will likely be a keynote panel discussion and 21 small group meetings on the subject of ‘Implementation plans for responsible use of AI within the military sector’. Within the afternoon special session, industry and academia figures at the middle of AI innovation plan to make suggestions to policymakers for responsible use of AI.
On the tenth, a high-level luncheon and government representative roundtable will likely be held with government representatives from each country. On the identical day, a keynote panel discussion and 13 small group meetings will likely be held on the subject of ‘Future Governance Design for Military AI’, and in a special session, experts from academia and industry will discuss ways to implement policy discussions on responsible AI in an engineering manner.
The AI company exhibition, held as a side event, will introduce the military application of AI technology, exhibit the technology and products of related corporations, and supply participants with a chance to experience AI technology directly. Events for youth participation include the announcement of the policy proposal of the Youth Envoy for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, the award ceremony for the Youth Science Fiction Novel and Webtoon Contest co-hosted by Korea and the UN, and the Youth REAIM Training (TTX).
