The LG Open Innovation Festival ‘Super Start Day 2024’ opened on the 4th at LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul. Many LG employees and startup officials visited the positioning and showed great interest.
The event venue includes an exhibition zone with about 50 startup promotion booths, an innovation stage where IR pitching takes place, a brilliant start incubator zone, and an F&B pop-up zone.
Among the many LG collaborating startups, the one which caught the eye of holiday makers essentially the most was Black Tangerine (CEO Kim Sang-i)’s personal color and homebrew matching service.
When a photograph of a visitor is taken with a camera on site, Black Tangerine’s artificial intelligence (AI) personal color evaluation solution recommends a beer color that suits them. This concept of using it to advertise LG’s home beer maker HomeBrew has been well-received.
Black Tangerine is the operator of the AI style evaluation app ‘Cocon’, which provides AI stylist functions based on personal color and body type evaluation. An official said, “We’re growing right into a commerce platform, saying, “We are able to collaborate with cosmetics and fashion brands, and even recommend products, purchase, and pay on the Cocon app.”
On-device AI solutions and semiconductor startups collaborating with LG Electronics’ smart home platform ‘ThinQ’ also stood out.
Aimfuture (CEO Changsoo Kim) and Mobilint (CEO Dongjoo Shin) are startups developing on-device AI and AI accelerators (NPUs) for edge servers.
Mobilint showcased samples of its upcoming mass-production ‘Eris’ and its latest on-device AI specialized chip ‘Regulus’. Aimfuture explained that it’s developing a multi-modal NPU targeting the Web of Things (IoT), home appliances, and automotive markets.
As well as, Gamba Labs (CEO Park Se-jin) showcased on-device AI solutions applied to home devices, and demonstrated technology to regulate lighting and laptops with voice to visitors.
Ant (CEO Sang-yoon Lee) introduced the AI research assistant ‘Labnote Scholar’ following the research data management solution ‘Labnote’. An Ant official said, “It’s an AI assistant in the shape of a chatbot that recognizes text and tables in research papers and company data and helps with research in a conversational manner,” and “We’re conducting a proof of concept (POC) with LG researchers.”
Within the cleantech sector, Barka (CEO Jeon Hyeon-gyun) has emerged, which predicts agricultural product prices using AI that has learned satellite and weather and agricultural data. The reason is that “we plan to launch a direct agricultural product transaction platform for general consumers next yr.”
As well as, AI startups from various fields similar to agriculture, smart farm AI technology, robotics, biohealth, and commerce welcomed visitors.
Within the incubator zone, corporations which have moved into the startup-only space within the LG Science Park complex, similar to Kaire and Narnia Labs, introduced the ML Ops platform and product design AI solution they’re developing.
