The outcomes of a domestic survey on artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots reminiscent of ‘ChatGPT’ have been released. The outcomes are much like those of surveys published by global research institutes. 86.4% of persons are aware of AI chatbots, and the usage rate decreases with age.

The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) released the outcomes of a survey on using AI chatbots conducted on 9,757 domestic users in June of last 12 months through the Korea Media Panel Survey on the 4th.

In keeping with a report written by researcher Oh Yoon-seok, only 13.6% of respondents said they were completely unaware of AI chatbots. Then again, 86.4% of respondents said they were aware of them, including â–²heard of them (40.9%), â–²know them (42.1%), and â–²know them well (3.4%).

This is analogous to the outcomes of ChatGPT awareness by country announced by Boston Consulting Group in April. At the moment, the info showed that a whopping 88% of individuals in Korea had heard of ChatGPT, and 26% had used it directly.

KISDI analyzed that “AI chatbot technology will not be yet popular” since the variety of responses of “I do not know in any respect” was higher than the variety of responses of “I do know thoroughly.” Nonetheless, in line with data from Boston Consulting Group, domestic chatbot awareness is the third highest on the planet.

It was revealed that awareness showed a greater difference by age group than by gender.

The proportion of those that answered ‘I do know’ and ‘I realize it well’ was 75.8% for those of their 30s, while it was only 22.6% for those of their 60s and seven.2% for those of their 70s. By gender, there was only a ten% difference in information, with 50.2% for men and 40.8% for girls.

This is analogous to the research results announced by economists on the University of Chicago last month. The study showed that for each 12 months of age, the probability of using ChatGPT decreases by 1%, and for each 12 months of labor experience, it decreases by 0.7%.

The general AI chatbot usage rate was 13.4%. It is a big difference from the Boston Consulting Group results (26%), which appears to be since the KISDI survey was conducted greater than half a 12 months earlier.

The usage rate by age was 13.5% for teenagers, 26.0% for those of their 20s, 26.5% for those of their 30s, 18.7% for those of their 40s, 8.5% for those of their 50s, 3.4% for those of their 60s, and 0.2% for those of their 70s. Again, those of their 20s and 30s were essentially the most common.

The aim of AI chatbot use was mainly for tutorial purposes (50.4%) for teenagers, and for information search purposes for other age groups. Chatbots were also mostly used for homework, proving that traffic drops during vacations.

It was reported that only 5.7% of users were paid users. Nonetheless, this percentage will not be a small number. In keeping with various statistics, the variety of paid users of ChatGPT or ‘Claude’ in Korea is ranked fifth to seventh on the planet.

Also, AI chatbots are equipped with voice assistant functions and the variety of paid users is increasing significantly, so it’s essential to look at the long run trend. Actually, OpenAI’s ChatGPT revenue has doubled because the launch of ‘GPT-4o’, and the variety of paid subscribers in July has reached an all-time high.

Accordingly, global big tech firms reminiscent of Google and Meta in addition to domestic firms reminiscent of SK Telecom and Naver are planning to launch AI voice assistants, so it’s predicted that full-scale B2C competition will unfold around the top of the 12 months.
