“Google AI Search Causing Problems Again in India”

Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) search has reportedly run into trouble, this time in India, with concerns raised about its Hindi translation function and consistency in search results.

TechCrunch reported on the twenty seventh (local time) that Google’s ‘AI Overview’ is showing several problems in its Indian service and requires upgrades.

Based on this, Google recently expanded its AI Overview service area to incorporate India. India is the world’s largest market with over 830 million web users, a lot of whom use Google search.

Nevertheless, the Hindi-English translation service provided by Google was the primary to be problematic. It was revealed that there have been cases where the interpretation was inaccurate and cases where it was not translated properly and resulted in strange interpretations.

There have been also cases where incorrect answers were introduced. For instance, Neil Mohan was introduced because the CEO of YouTube ‘as of’ February 16, 2023, but he was introduced because the CEO ‘until’ February 16, 2023.

There have been also criticisms that the search results were of poor quality. There have been cases of providing misinformation about Indian restaurants and citing incorrect articles from Indian news sites. This is comparable to the ‘eat a stone a day’ issue that was problematic in america.

In lots of cases, they reported that asking questions in English was more more likely to get the correct answer. Nevertheless, similar problems that arose when the service was launched in america were repeated this time.

Regarding this, Google stated, “Based on our own testing, the accuracy of AI search was just like that of really useful snippets. The issue could also be that web content was misinterpreted or inaccurate content was reflected on the net. We are going to use these cases to enhance.”

Nevertheless, TechCrunch identified that the issue will not be the standard of the sources cited, however the algorithms that adopt them. Due to this fact, they concluded that language and accuracy must be improved to draw more users.

Meanwhile, AI Overview is currently being provided primarily to countries with many users, including america, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, and the UK.
