Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ‘REAIM Insight Talk Concert’ held… “Discussion for coexistence of AI and humans”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ REAIM (Responsible Military Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)) High-level Meeting Preparatory Committee announced on the twenty second that it recently held a ‘REAIM Insight Talk Concert’ with the theme of ‘Coexistence of People and AI for a Higher Future’ on the JU Donggyo-dong Youth Culture Space in Mapo-gu, Seoul.

This event was planned to speak and expand interest in AI-related issues with the general public ahead of the REAIM High-Level Meeting to be held in Seoul in September.

The event was attended by Professor Dae-sik Kim of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Chairman Young-wook Park of the Korean Society for Defense Development as panelists. They explained the impact of AI technology on society and day by day life and introduced the REAIM High-level Meeting.

First, in Part 1, we presented the impact that AI may have on human thought and life beyond technological innovation, and the long run we are going to face through it. In Part 2, the talk session continued the discussion on the event of AI and the international norms to manage it. Particularly, we discussed ethical issues related to using AI within the military field, and emphasized the necessity for cooperation and norm formation within the international community.

Meanwhile, the REAIM High-Level Meeting is a global conference launched to advertise international discussions on the responsible military development, deployment, and use of AI. The primary meeting was held in The Hague, Netherlands, last 12 months, and the second meeting is scheduled to be held in Seoul on September 9-10.

This conference will consist of high-level keynote panel discussions, expert talks, and small group meetings on topics resembling â–²Implications of AI for international peace and security â–²Specific implementation of principles for responsible use of AI within the military â–²Development direction of governance of AI within the military. Various side events resembling AI exhibitions and youth participation events will even be held.
