SKT is opening a man-made intelligence (AI) data center in Seoul in partnership with cloud startup Lambda.
SK Telecom (CEO Yoo Young-sang) announced on the twenty first that it has signed a partnership with Lambda for ‘AI Cloud Joint Business’.
The 2 firms plan to strengthen strategic collaboration, including business expansion based on stable GPU supply and establishment of Lambda’s Korean region.
Lambda is an organization that gives AI cloud services by supplying the newest GPUs from Nvidia. It has attracted big tech firms comparable to Intel and Microsoft as its customers.
SKT has recently been accelerating its AI infrastructure business. The 2 firms plan to deploy the Nvidia GPU ‘H100’ in the present SK Broadband data center situated in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul in December.
Lambda is deploying NVIDIA GPU resources to SK Broadband’s Seoul Gasan Data Center. SKT plans to expand the variety of GPUs deployed in AI data centers to 1000’s inside three years. The most recent GPU model, ‘H200’, can also be being promoted for early introduction.
SK Broadband plans to offer an information colocation environment optimized for high-density GPU server operation environments by leveraging its data center operation know-how. It explains that the ability density per rack of the Gasan Data Center will probably be implemented at 44 kilowatts (kW), the very best in Korea, to make sure stable operation of GPU servers. That is roughly 9 times higher than the typical power density per rack of domestic data centers, which is 4.8 kW.
SKT also plans to launch ‘GPU as a Service (GPUaaS)’, a subscription-based AI cloud service based on Lambda GPU resources, in December. GPUaaS is a service that permits firms to rent resources in a virtual environment through the cloud as a substitute of directly purchasing the GPUs needed for AI service development or utilization.
“SKT shares the identical vision of making an environment where GPU computing resources may be used as conveniently as electricity,” said Steven Balaban, CEO and founding father of Lambda.
Kim Kyung-deok, head of SKT’s Enterprise Business Division, said, “Securing GPUs stably through strategic cooperation with Lambda is critical by way of expanding the domestic GPU supply,” and “We’ll construct the most important GPU farm within the country in the long run to reinforce the country’s AI competitiveness.”
