“Based on my 30 years of experience in the knowledge and communications industry, I’ll devote all my efforts to realizing ‘Gwangju, an AI demonstration city’ where AI corporations can thrive.”
Oh Sang-jin, the third director of the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Business Unit (AICA), announced his plan to create an AI ecosystem on the inauguration ceremony held within the AI Business Unit conference room in Buk-gu, Gwangju on the first.
He emphasized, “AI is presenting a brand new paradigm in all fields, including industry, society, culture, and national defense,” and “Since responding effectively to those changes is a key task for enhancing national competitiveness, we are going to do our greatest to create an AI innovation ecosystem.”
Since 2020, the AI Business Division has been constructing an AI innovation ecosystem through the ‘National Artificial Intelligence Centered Industrial Convergence Complex (AI Complex)’ established in Gwangju’s Advanced District 3 in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and ICT and Gwangju City.
Particularly, CEO Oh said in regards to the AI data center, “The world-class AI data center with a computing power of 88.5 petaflops (PF) and a storage capability of 107 petabytes (PB) will enable domestic AI corporations to develop ultra-large AI models by utilizing high-performance computing resources.”
He also added, “We’ll provide an environment where startups can grow through AI startup camps and AI convergence businesses, and concentrate on fostering AI experts through operations reminiscent of the AI military academy.”
Director Oh said, “If the primary phase of the AI integrated complex project focused on constructing infrastructure, the second phase of the project will concentrate on producing tangible results,” and presented the longer term business direction of AICA.
“We’ll concentrate on improving the verification infrastructure in three key areas, including mobility, energy, and healthcare, and creating an ‘AI verification innovation ecosystem’ where AI corporations can easily confirm their work based on data from public institutions,” he explained.
Finally, CEO Oh emphasized, “We’ll do our greatest to create the most effective industrial ecosystem for AI corporations to do business in and help Gwangju grow into a number one AI city.”
