The Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art is the primary national art museum to carry a special exhibition on cartoonist Heo Yeong-man.
This can be a place to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the debut of Yeosu native Heo Young-man, to focus on the artist’s creative activities in accordance with the times and to reinterpret ‘comics’, a preferred culture and art form.
The Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art sheds latest light on the artist’s interests, regional sentiments, and society on the time, and introduces representative masterpieces chosen based on these. As well as, it focuses on the influence of cartoonist Heo Young-man on culture and humanities, and seeks to offer a chance to reconsider the status and artistic value of cartoons.
Artist Heo Young-man was born in 1948 in Hwayang-myeon, Yeosu, Jeollanam-do. He graduated from Yeosu Dong Elementary School, Yeosu Middle School, and Yeosu High School, and debuted in 1974 with the Hankook Ilbo’s “In Search of Home.”
The creator is a veteran cartoonist representing Korea, and as a veteran who stood at the height of Korean cartoons from the Nineteen Seventies to the 2000s and played a number one role in the event of Korean cartoons, he experienced the eras of script agencies, cartoon magazines, and webtoons.
Lively for the reason that early days of Korean comics, he has created quite a few comics corresponding to Shaman Spider, Gaksi Mask, Beat, Ggoll, Tazza, Fly Superboard, Sikgaek, and The Warrior Who Never Gets Off His Horse, while pioneering a novel field.
