As you gain experience and progress through your profession in data science, sooner or later you would possibly start hearing or asking yourself this query:
Do you wish to move into management?
My boss asked me this query two years ago. On the time I used to be a senior data scientist. I used to be successfully leading projects and mentoring junior team members on top of other duties. Since I used to be already doing quite a lot of the work of a manager (or so I believed), I didn’t think moving to a management position can be an enormous change. Plus, I believed a “fancier” title and a pay bump for (mostly) the identical work seemed like deal, so, although I never planned on attempting to turn out to be a manager, I ultimately agreed to maneuver from a person contributor (senior data scientist) to a people leader role (manager data science).
Now, after nearly two years in management, I made a decision to maneuver back to a person contributor role. I’ll share what motivated me to do that in a while on this post, but briefly, I discovered that a person contributor role aligns with my interests…
