Samsung has unveiled its wearable lineup, including the ‘Galaxy Ring’ and ‘Galaxy Watch7’. It has received high praise for significantly enhancing digital healthcare functions with artificial intelligence (AI) functions and presenting advanced functions that other corporations wouldn’t have.

Samsung Electronics (CEO Jong-hee Han) held the ‘Galaxy Unpack 2024’ event in Paris, France on the tenth (local time) and unveiled the ‘Galaxy Ring’, ‘Galaxy Watch7’, and ‘Galaxy Watch Ultra’.

The brand new wearable product line is different in that it uses ‘Galaxy AI’. It’s rare for wearable products to make use of AI.

Specifically, the Galaxy Watch has added metabolic monitoring, biological age measurement, and sleep apnea measurement, that are functions that even Apple has not yet implemented. Also, the smart ring market has been dominated by small and medium-sized corporations akin to Oura, and it’s a field that Apple can also be considering entering.

Samsung says the Galaxy Ring uses integrated sensor technology to comfortably track key health indicators whilst you sleep and supply personalized insights. The Galaxy Watch7 focuses on health monitoring and personalized exercise coaching. The Galaxy Watch Ultra is more durable for outdoor activities.

“The newest Galaxy wearable products support a healthier every day life by adding Galaxy AI to Samsung Electronics’ cutting-edge health technology and innovation,” said Roh Tae-moon, President of Samsung Electronics. “Users will receive next-level meaningful insights and experience a very recent way of managing their health through the Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch7, and Galaxy Watch Ultra.”

To start with, the Galaxy Ring focuses on sleep and helps you understand and improve your habits through sleep evaluation. It provides ▲movements during sleep ▲time taken to go to sleep ▲heart rate and respiratory rate during sleep, etc.

It also supports monitoring of every day activities, including ‘heart rate notifications,’ ‘automatic exercise detection,’ and ‘inactivity notifications.’

Specifically, it provides various health indicators and analyses with out a separate subscription fee. That is different from Oura, which currently charges a monthly subscription fee of $6 (about 8,300 won). In other words, the product price is 499,400 won, which is costlier than Oura’s $299 (about 414,000 won), but as a substitute, the range of availability has been expanded without additional burden.

The Galaxy Watch7 is the primary Galaxy Watch series to offer ‘Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs)’ measurement. Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) are one in every of the health indicators that reflect the user’s biological aging process, and are greatly affected by the user’s usual eating regimen and lifestyle habits. It supports the measurement of advanced glycation end products amassed within the skin through a sensor, helping users comprehensively understand their health status.

Additionally it is the primary watch series to feature the ‘sleep apnea function’ approved by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It also has the ‘irregular heart rhythm notification (IHRN)’ function, electrocardiogram (ECG), and blood pressure (BP) monitoring functions.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch7 supports a brand new ‘Suggested replies’ feature, by which the Galaxy AI analyzes the context of previous conversations to suggest appropriate replies, making it easier to reply to messages from the notification screen.

The Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch7, and Galaxy Watch Ultra shall be released sequentially worldwide starting on the twenty fourth.

Experts’ response to the wearable launch has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Introducing AI-based health and fitness features to wearables shall be necessary for Samsung to distinguish itself from other smartwatch vendors and is essential to attracting brand switchers within the premium segment,” Jack Leesom, an analyst at Canalys Research, told Reuters.

“The Galaxy Ring is the star of Samsung’s events, grabbing everyone’s attention,” Paolo Pescatore, founding father of PP Forsight, told CNBC. “It’s a product that might help drive smartphone sales and produce users to their platform.”

“Smart rings are expected to ship lower than 2 million units this yr, a distinct segment market in comparison with smartwatches, which is able to total 163 million units,” IDC Vice President Brian Ma told Bloomberg. “Nonetheless, Samsung has the potential to vary the scale of the market with its massive distribution network and marketing.”

Meanwhile, Rick Osterloh, Google’s SVP of Platforms and Devices, reaffirmed plans to launch an prolonged reality (XR) headset platform with Samsung. Speaking on a separate stage, he said Samsung’s XR device “shall be launching this yr.”
