Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy issues Korea’s first ‘Industrial AI Certificate’ to Hyundai AutoEver

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Ahn Deok-geun) announced on the twenty sixth that it held the 2nd general meeting of the ‘Industrial Artificial Intelligence International Certification Forum’ at El Tower in Yangjae, Seoul and awarded an ‘Industrial Artificial Intelligence Certificate’ to Hyundai Autoever.

This forum was founded in June 2023 to strengthen the export competitiveness of artificial intelligence (AI) services. Afterwards, an accredited testing laboratory for six international standards related to AI was designated, and a certificate was issued consequently.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy predicted that the issuance of commercial AI certificates in line with international standards can be possible in Korea, reducing the burden of certification when domestic corporations enter overseas markets.

On the twenty fifth, Hyundai AutoEver received certification of suitability for smart vision surface defect detection using AI technology from the Korea Testing & Research Institute. This certificate was evaluated in line with international standards for artificial intelligence and was issued based on Korea’s first internationally recognized test report within the AI ​​field.

As well as, at the overall meeting on today, a signing ceremony was held for the ‘Industrial Artificial Intelligence Certification System Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)’, which expanded the variety of forum participating organizations from 17 to 23. In the longer term, the 23 participating organizations plan to cooperate on AI suitability assessment technology development, human resource training, and designation as an accredited organization.

Oh Seung-cheol, Director of the Industrial Infrastructure Division of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, said, “We expect that the economic artificial intelligence certificate issued today can be step one in creating a synthetic intelligence ecosystem with trust and safety.” “We plan to strengthen cooperation with overseas certification agencies to make sure this.”
