China has approved its first group of nine automakers to conduct public road testing to speed up the adoption of self-driving cars.
Reuters reported on the 4th (local time) that the Chinese government granted Level 3 autonomous driving test permission to nine firms, including BYD, Nio, and Changan Automobile.
China announced plans to pilot self-driving cars in November last 12 months and has been accepting applications from firms.
The extent 3 autonomous driving permitted this time allows the driving force to take his or her hands off the steering wheel. Automobile manufacturers and vehicle operators are accountable for safety.
“This test will pave the way in which for the commercialization of more advanced autonomous driving technology,” China’s Ministry of Transport said.
Moreover, automaker executives said, “We’re one step closer to creating Level 3 vehicles available on the market and use by private buyers and fleet operators.”
Currently, in China, level 2 autonomous driving functions are being provided to about 10 firms, including Huawei and Xiaopeng.
Moreover, Tesla is reportedly preparing to register software to launch FSD, an autonomous driving function, in China inside this 12 months.
