Perplexity, a number one startup that responds to Google search, is embroiled in copyright issues for artificial intelligence (AI) learning. The corporate’s recently released news summary function was criticized as ‘stealing’ and a lawsuit was predicted.

Bloomberg reported on the eighth (local time) that Perplexity responded to Forbes’ claim that it stole an article from last weekend by saying that ‘Pages’ isn’t yet complete and is being improved.

In keeping with this, Forbes identified that last week’s news summary from Purplexity and the actual article were very similar. He then fiercely criticized them for not even revealing the source.

Perplexity CEO Arvind Srivas responded, “AI tools are still unstable within the early stages, so there could also be problems,” and added, “The functionality will steadily improve.” He also added, “I agree with the opinion that the source should be clearly shown.”

Page is a feature launched on the thirtieth of last month and is a service that collects requested information in a matter of seconds and turns it into an easy-to-understand article or report. Images are also added.

The issue this time was that the article the page created was very much like the unique article. In this manner, when a generative AI returns the unique source as output, it is known as a ‘backflow’ phenomenon.

As well as, Forbes said, “Our work only exposed a small logo in the identical proportion as other blog posts, and the corporate name was not even mentioned. This isn’t unstable, it’s theft.”

Until now, the most important issue of copyright has been the unauthorized use of knowledge for AI learning. Nevertheless, this time with real-time generated AI search, the case is a bit different.

As well as, Purplecity attracted $63 million (roughly KRW 86 billion) in investment last month, valuing the corporate at over $1 billion (roughly KRW 1.376 trillion). The corporate’s value doubled in three months.

Given this example, it may possibly be easily predicted that copyright-related lawsuits will proceed in Perplexity. Unlike other generated AI chatbots, Perplexity is gaining great popularity since it provides real-time information.
