This story explains an accelerated way of stepping into the information engineering role by learning the required skills and familiarising yourself with data engineering tools and techniques. Through my years as a Head of Data Engineering for some of the successful start-ups within the UK and mid-east, I learned so much from my profession and I would really like to share this information and experience with you. Data engineering is an exciting and really rewarding field. It’s an interesting job where now we have a probability to work with every thing that touches data — APIs, data connectors, data platforms, business intelligence and dozens of information tools available out there. Data engineering is closely connected with Machine learning (ML). You’ll create and deploy all types of data and ML pipelines.

It definitely won’t be boring and it pays well.

It pays well since it’s difficult to construct a great data platform. It starts with requirements gathering and design and requires considerable experience. It’s not a simple task and requires some really good programming skills as well. The job itself is secure because as long businesses generate data this job might be in high demand.

The businesses will all the time hire someone who knows easy methods to process (ETL) data efficiently.

Data engineering has been certainly one of the fastest-growing careers within the UK over the past five years, rating 13 on LinkedIn’s list of probably the most in-demand jobs in 2023 [1].
